We are a small, family run business based in Scotland. Our carefully, hand crafted leather is tailored for bookbinding and leathercraft. Our Online Shop is extensive and includes a wide selection of equipment, tools, materials and sundries, catering to the requirements of both craft and commercial bookbinders around the World. We endeavour to keep our range of products up to date, and often have company and product news to share with you. We regularly have discontinued and second-hand items to sell in the Bargain Basement section of our shop.

We are a well established company with a 200 year History of manufacturing the finest quality leathers for bookbinding and leathergoods production. We are proud to have held a Royal Warrant for nearly 50 years, firstly to Her Majesty the late Queen Elizabeth II, and more recently to His Majesty King Charles III.

Excellent communication and very fast delivery with J Hewit & Sons. The machine was in impeccable order and does an amazing job.
For people questioning whether it is worthwhile, I strongly recommend it. Previously I hand skived all the edges on the thinner pieces of leather. As well as being time consuming, my knife had to be kept super sharp and there was still a risk of the leather pushing in front of the blade and chunks coming off. It was quick to install this device, easy to adjust and perfectly consistent at removing edges of the pieces I was preparing.

I needed to replace a brush I bought about 20 years ago - same make. I failed to look after my last one and was really pleased with the replacement. Does the job perfectly - but lesson learnt to rinse glue out properly!
