Dorfner style binding executed in Hewit Pentland Goatskin. Boards covered in leather with edge-to-edge leather doublures; leather onlays. The design and color scheme are reminiscent of a traditional Greek amphora decorated with figures that recall classical literary texts. It was inspired by the passages of the Iliad in the book and the accompanying illustrations. The key design is visible at the top and bottom of the cover, but only "fragments" of it are highlighted by the black onlays. The central onlays evoke the style of the illustrations and reflect the conflicting emotions of Helen about her abduction and the suffering brought about by the war.
